Screen-Acting Training
STAR SCHOOL screen-acting workshops are designed to prepare students serious about an acting career for their screen-acting debuts, teaching them the tricks of the screen trade. Running for 3 hours a week 50 weeks of the year, almost every week a new screen-acting component is introduced and explored in the workshops.
Our workshops are unique in focusing on generating believable and realistic 'behaviours' when acting for the camera. Using human psychology and behaviourism as the root of all dramatic performance, and teaching students a number of special techniques to bring to every scene they perform, to begin with we work with improvisation, getting students to work in small groups to develop their command of the techniques taught. Then we work with scripted materials to apply the teachings to a dramatic text. Almost every week student's performances are recorded on video camera and presented back to them with constructive criticisms, given to help them assess the effectiveness of their screen performances.
In later weeks, student's work with props to bring believability and a 'secondary action' to their performances. At all times student's are expected to be aware of their screen continuity and their ability to effectively repeat their performances to camera time and time again.
All workshop students get the chance to work towards securing paid acting work appearing in the company's original interactive Internet soap opera: CHALKHILL. This provides an opportunity for the most talented students to perfect and showcase their talents in a high profile production. Officially supported by the BBC, the CHALKHILL pilot broadcast on the BBC's "Community Channel" securing a peak audience of 1.5 million viewers. CHALKHILL - the world's first interactive Internet soap opera - is set to commence broadcasting over the Internet in winter 2008.
Components covered by our screen-acting workshops include:
- The Actor and the art of 'Focus'
- The skill of 'letting go'
